SAMPLE SCHEDULE
This schedule is not set in stone and is subject to change. However, it will provide you with an idea of what a "Typical Day" entails.
Students who attend the PM Class will adhere to a similar plan.
Class Times:
Tuesday/Thursday AM 9-11:30
Tuesday/Thursday PM 12-2:30
9:00 Arrival
Students will arrive, put personal items on designated hooks, and "sign in". Signing in involves your child finding his/her name on the "Who's Here" board and moving his/her name to the correct column. This will take place in the classroom. The purpose for this is for name and letter recognition. Later, the board will be used at circle time for math and calendar activities. In addition, a teacher will greet each student at the door and send him/her into the classroom. I will ask that parents stay outside the classroom as this makes the transition process easier.
9:00-9:30 Circle Time
Circle Time is the part of our day when we gather together as a community. It is at this time that we will read stories, sing songs, learn poetry, discuss themes, and learn about the calendar. The Star of the Week will also have the opportunity to share. Circle Time is important for three-year-olds because it is the first "formal" time when students are being asked to work as a group. Students will learn how to sit and listen to others, how to ask questions and how to respond appropriately and respectfully.
9:30-10:15 Centers
Center time is an opportunity for students to work together in small groups. There are some centers that are mandatory and others that the child may choose. A sample of the types of centers that may be set up on a given day include:
a.) Free Center (Blocks, games, dolls, puzzles, etc.)
b.) Writing: Pencils, paper, magazines, scissors, etc. will be put out for students to manipulate. The objective is exposure to print.
c.) Art: One day free/One day Project-based (Please refer to goals/objective section for greater explanation.)
d.) Reading: Students will not be taught how to read. However, they will be encouraged to cuddle up with a good book!
e.) Math: Students will not necessarily be "doing" math but will manipulate numbers, shapes, etc. in a variety of methods.
f.) Exploration: Water, Play Doh, plants, etc. This will change depending on what we are studying.
g.) Creative Play: Dress Up
h.) Table Time: Small group work with the teacher to complete an activity or experiment.
